There’s not much going on this week on the Billboard charts in regards to new releases, but some of the albums already out continue to move more units.
The story on the charts over the past few months has been Alicia Keys and her new album, As I Am. The album is still on a roll, holding down the no. 2 spot on the Billboard once again with 53,100 albums sold in its 15th week on the charts. Keys has sold 3.1 million albums plus to date.
At no. 3 is Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black, selling 51,500 copies. After 50 weeks, she’s at 1.7 million albums sold, closing in on the double platinum mark.
Atlantic Records’ soundtrack to the film “Step It Up 2: The Streets” came in at no. 5, selling 42,600 copies. The album features music by Plies, Cupid, T-Pain, Scarface and features two brand new tracks by Missy Elliott.
Mary J. Blige manages to hold on the top 10, coming in at no. 9 with 34,900 copies sold of Growing Pains, which after ten weeks, has sold 1.2 million and some change.
Climbing six spots to no. 12 is Keyshia Cole’s Just Like You. The sophomore effort by the singer scanned 29,900 copies this week, putting her overall total at 1.3 million plus album sales.
At no. 13 is Chris Brown’s second album, Exclusive, selling 29,400 copies, taking his total to over 1.3 million sold.
Oh and Jay-Z’s American Gangster album managed to finally hit platinum sales after 16 weeks.
As far as new releases, Jim Jones’ Harlem’s American Gangster debuted at no. 30, selling 24,900 copies.
According to Billboard.com, sales this week are down 18.5% from last week at 7.97 million units and down 13.1% from the same week last year.
