After a re-energizing and eye-opening tour of Europe in July, Dancehall Mumma, Lady Saw is ready to rumble. And she is doing just that with her latest singles, Sunday to Sunday and Your Man, both of which have been making an impact on radio and in the dancehall.
In fact, such is groove of the songs that Lady Saw says she will be making a medley video, which should actually have been shot last week Friday, but was postponed because of Tropical Storm Gustav.
“That guy just came around and caused problems for everybody,” Saw said, noting that the she and video director, Nordia Rose are discussing the new date for the shooting.
The ultimate walk-out song – If you know whe you man deh from Sunday to Sunday, gal walk up inna di video, gal and just talk up – Sunday to Sunday has that controlled edginess that symbolises Lady Saw’s made-for-airplay songs. It was produced by the youngster who is fast earning the title ‘genius’, Stephen McGregor, on his runaway Beehive riddim.
Your Man, much in the same vein, is signature Lady Saw and combines her lyrical agility with the talents of one of dancehall’s most respected producers, Christopher Birch.
Reflecting on her recently-concluded tour, where she visited Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, France, Slovakia as the dancehall ambassador, Saw giggled as she recalled how she was hailed queen. “In Sweden, everywhere I went the posters and everything said ‘The Queen is coming’ and there was so much excitement,” she almost gasped. “The promoter thought that I was going to be such a diva and prove difficult to work with, but it was just the opposite. When we were leaving, he was just going on and on . ‘this was my best show’ . he kept on repeating.”
Lady Saw says she is looking forward to returning to Europe in December for a series of shows with fellow dancehall act, Ce’cile.
