With a steady and smooth start to the inaugural Dancehall Week 2024, anticipation is building for the final events in the week-long celebration of the Dancehall Genre; I Love Dancehall at the National Stadium this Friday Night, Dancehall Sound Battle at the Mas Camp this Saturday Night and the official Dancehall Street Parade and Itz A Wrap after Party on Sunday.
Already two of the five designs for the Dancehall Wear outfits, curated by fashion designer Kadian Nicely, have been completely sold out and the others are going fast, which equates to the Dancehall Street Parade having an authentic dancehall look with persons dressing the part in authentic dancehall style.
With five trucks already confirmed for the day’s Parade, persons can look out for a strong stamp on the streets of Kingston this Sunday. Leaving from the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre at 2pm, the convoy will traverse; Hope Road, Waterloo, Constant Spring Road and Oxford Road as it makes its way to the Mas Camp Village by 6pm for the grand finale Itz A Wrap after party event. Trucks include; Wray and Nephew, JCDC, Boom Energy Drink Hitz 92fm and more.
“We are happy that representation from both corporate entities and government bodies will be present at the Street Parade this Sunday showing their love and support for Dancehall. It’s about unity and togetherness for the Genre that is ours so we look forward to seeing everyone this Sunday afternoon,’ Dave Goldson Executive Director for Dancehall Week explained.
All Jamaicans are invited to come out and participate even if you have not purchased tickets to be inside of the actual parade.
“Just being on the road and dressing in your own version of dancehall attire is support enough, cheering on the Street Parade as it goes by or following along is a great way of participating in the day’s activities’ Roxelle Mckenzie, Coordinator of Dancehall Week added.
Dancehall touring DJ Tony ‘Mentally Ill’ Mattahorn and members of Stone Love will be the official selectors on tap for the After Party at the Mas Camp from 6pm to midnight with multiple artiste appearances also expected.
Patrons are still able to go online at firstinlineja.com or their nearest ticket outlet for tickets to all events or pay at the gate to enter. All details for Dancehall Week can also be viewed on Instagram @dancehall.week.
