After a brief break over the Christmas season, dancehall singjay Mr Vegas is back for 2008 with remixes and hot new tracks that are making their way on to the airwaves.
Over the holidays, while some artistes were on every stage show, Mr Vegas, although doing a few shows, for the most part played the role of spectator.
“I decided to take a well-deserved rest, I wanted to cool out,” he said. Vegas was recently ill with a heart condition that had caused him to miss a few shows. However, according to the artiste, “everything is good” with his health.
Mr Vegas burned up the dances and the radio with hit dance tunes in 2007 such as Tek Weh Yuh Self, Raging Bull, Hot Gal and many more. Vegas is now working on numerous songs as he told the STAR, “Right now we’re just here working on a few tings. The year just start and I’m back in the studios putting together a few things.” Vegas is also working on the Tek Weh Yuhself remix with American rapper Lil Kim and new-comer Kat Deluna.
“The remix will be way catchier than the original and will be coming with a whole heap of vibes,” Vegas explained. Vegas is focusing on the remix, working on releasing a music video for the song and putting all the paperwork together. The three-way combination will see the remix with a hip-hop flavour, Spanish vibes to it and Vegas keeps the dancehall strong, giving the song a perfect blend.
A pioneer in his own brand of Jamaican soca music, Vegas doesn’t disappoint this soca season with two new tracks doing well. According to Vegas, his song Pressure with Ricky Ticky is doing great in Trinidad and he also has a song out with soca princess Destra, entitled On Di Floor.
In the dancehall arena, Vegas also has a few new songs out, such as Mus Come A Road and Wine Up. Exploring more than dancing tunes this year, Vegas will be moving with the times, working with the vibes of the dancehall.
“As long as you put out hot music you’re good in the dancehall,” he said. Vegas recently did a show in Madison Square Garden in New York where he was called onstage by American rapper Lil Mama, who is known for her hit song Lipstick, to do his song Hot Wuk. From there, Vegas was busy as usual in Barbados, among other places.
