Fast Rising dancehall artiste Khago is steadily making strides to the top in the competitive music industry, the artiste, who broke on to the music scene with his single Caan Cool in 2009, is set to perform on the Stars On The Rise concert on September 4.

THE WEEKEND STAR caught up with Khago recently to find out what his road to progress has been like, and how it feels to have acquired a taste for success. According to the artiste, the road to being an established act was far from easy. “I never had a house nor a stable family structure, so I just move from place to place and stay by mi friends,” he said. Khago said he travelled from rural Jamaica to the Corporate Area on a regular basis not knowing how he would survive, just because he wanted to be successful in music.

The artiste says the turning point in his musical development came after a discussion he had with another artiste. “I used to deejay mostly and sounded like Vegas and another artiste told me to try sing and get a sound for my self and when I got back to my community I felt ashamed of the comment but I still took his advice,” Khago said. He said he took the criticism and reinvented himself and to his surprise his first hit song was a one drop song. “Mi nuh mek mi ego rule mi, suh even though I didn’t like the comment I still followed the advice,” he told THE WEEKEND STAR.

Khago says that young potential artistes should not rush the business but they should take a more practical approach, so as to prepare themselves and find what formula works for them best, “gwaan be yuself and take the time practise and perform, plus write yu songs, I never know I would reach the stage where I can guh to any studio to record now,” he said.

Khago also maintains that even though his status as an artiste has risen he remains the same person and his daily life has not changed much, according to the artiste it’s best to get your foundation right before getting into the hype, “nuh bada mek a one hit song get to yu head you have to set a foundation,” he said.

The artiste is now working with some of the most established producers on the local music industry, and has new projects for release, such as Infinity produced by himself and Bankelouss Naah sell out part 2 produced by Seanizzle, I swear- Produced by Flava Squad among others.
