After many successful years in the dancehall as an artiste, ‘Queen of the Dancehall’, Lady Saw, is now a producer.

Lady Saw’s first production on her recently registered Diva Records is the Summer Bounce rhythm. The rhythm was made by Jam 2 and Stephen McGregor and given to Lady Saw three years ago.

However, it was only recently that she decided to use the rhythm. She produced songs for herself like Bills and Beg Yuh, as well as other songs like Elephant Man’s Question, Vegas’ Brand, CeCile’s Ever Hot and Papa Pimp’s Pimping.

There are also songs on the rhythm by Assassin, Vybz Kartel and Beenie Man. Flippa Mafia, Mavado and Bounty Killer have received the rhythm and also have intentions of recording on it.

But the new producer is a bit disappointed that Shabba’s song on the rhythm was not recorded properly and could not be released as a result. However, she has plans of producing a song with him in the future.

new venture

Nonetheless, Lady Saw is happy with this new venture. She said the rhythm has not been officially released, but already it is getting a lot of airplay.

“Right now is the right time,” she said. “Everybody is talking bout it. It is a good feeling when you turn on the radio and people seh yuh rhythm a shot. But it’s a lot of hard work. I had to hire a secretary to burn the CDs and put the labels on and things like that.”

This is not the first time she has done some form of production work, as she produced songs for Sizzla, Bounty Killer and Spragga Benz in the past.

Lady Saw will also release other songs that she produced like Praise Him by Vegas and Devil Have A Way, which was sung by her.

But she has no intentions of selling any of the productions she has done, stating: “I don’t plan to sell my things to anyone. I want to own my things so that when I get old, I still want to collect royalties for myself and my children,” Lady Saw told THE STAR on Friday after what she described as an ‘ok’ performance at Reggae Sumfest’s Dancehall Night on Thursday.

one drop album

There are also other things on the agenda for Lady Saw, as she has plans to release a one drop album, which will feature former UB40 lead singer Ali Campbell. The song done by the two is called Still Love You.

“This is more like Marion Hall and has nothing to do with Lady Saw. I don’t have a name for it yet but I did about seven songs already. I am looking towards the European market with this one,” said Lady Saw who will leave Jamaica for Europe tomorrow.

But prior to this album, she had plans of releasing another album that was already complete. However, just before releasing it, she found out that VP Records released a compilation album with her.
