Hip-Hop entrepreneur Diddy is gearing up for the launch of his latest MTV reality series, “Starmaker” by holding auditions throughout the U.S. in search of talent for the show.

Expecting to give some competition to other well-known performance-based programs like “American Idol,” the MTV project will place Diddy as host and producer alongside television personality Mark Burnett as they try to find for the most talented singers in the country.

According to the show’s MySpace page, “Diddy is currently looking to sign two fresh artists to his label Bad Boy Records – one guy and one girl will be given the opportunity of a lifetime.”

While the mega-platinum selling entertainer has primarily focused on hip-hop and R&B in the past, this competition promises he is “looking for all styles from soulful R&B and energetic pop singers, to twangy country and hot rockers.”

Aside from meeting the age requirement – participants must be at least 18 years-old – the first auditions will take place this Saturday, August 23 in San Francisco and will continue every following week in St. Louis, New York, Los Angeles and ending in Atlanta on September 9.

“Starmaker” is currently scheduled to debut on MTV this winter.

In related Diddy news, the mogul’s apprentice style television show recently premiered on VH1. In the series entitled “I Want to Work for Diddy,” contestants compete to be his personal assistant.

“I Want to Work for Diddy” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on VH1 and the continually successful “Making the Band 4” returns to MTV tonight (August 19) at 9 p.m. EST/PT.
