Dr. Dre has finally emerged from his lair (aka studio) to do some press for his new line of headphones, Beats By Dr. Dre, and of course, he’s been asked the question: When is Detox coming out?

While speaking with USA Today, the veteran producer revealed that the long-awaited album may just see the light of day by the end of the year.

“I’m just now — over the last couple of months — starting to feel that it’s going to be right and it’s something I can be proud of, and everybody is going to love it,” he said. “In a perfect world, I’m shooting for a November or December release.”

Dre has a reputation of not putting albums out until he’s completely satisfied. Many artists on his Aftermath roster have experienced this, and even the producer’s list of solo projects under his belt proves this. Dre’s last album came in 1999 with the release of The Chronic 2001. Before that, his solo debut, The Chronic, dropped in 1992.

Despite the lengthy time period between releases, Dre says he doesn’t do it intentionally, blaming his perfectionist character attribute as the culprit.

“I’ve never set out to do that,” he says. “I just make the music feel the way I want it to feel and I don’t put it out until I’m totally happy with it. Then it does what it does.”

However, when Detox finally hits stores, he says there is no telling when another album will follow.

“I’m going to put this record out, promote it, tour and then become a hermit. I’m going to stay in the studio and produce.”
