Singer Gyptian is coming to the end of a good year as he recently copped the ‘Best Reggae Artiste’ title at the Soul Train Awards.

The show which was held on Wednesday, at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, saw Gyptian performing a medley of his songs Nah Let Go and Hold Yuh.

Gyptian won the award over nominees Mr Vegas, Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley, Gramps Morgan, Jah Cure and Vybz Kartel. Last year, Sean Paul walked away the first winner in the reggae category at the awards. The Soul Train Awards will premiere on Centric and BET, on November 28, at 9 p.m.

A source close to the singer told THE WEEKEND STAR that the artiste, who could not be reached for a comment, was excited about the win. The source also said that his performance was well received among the overseas entertainers who reportedly were on their feet throughout his performance.

This is Gyptian’s second big win for the year having recently won a MOBO award for ‘Best Reggae Artiste’ in Liverpool, England.

In recent times, Gyptian has achieved Billboard chart topping success with his hit Hold Yuh which was unofficially remixed by rapper Nicki Minaj and later MIMS. Gyptian released his album Hold You in July of this year and joined Mary J Blige on tour this month.
