Much has been said about this extraordinary young man who rose from humble beginnings to become the most sought after publicist in local entertainment. However as we demystify this multi- talented young music mogul we uncover an innate and infinite level of resilience which fuels his pursuit of excellence. The 14 year music “young veteran” who has already represented over 87 artistes, directed 237 music videos, wrote 19 number one songs and produced well over 100 songs says his career success in linked to his struggles as a child.

“I walked three miles to school and three miles back home from grade one in primary school to sixth form in High school and every day I was told I would never amount to anything by my own family. Before GSAT exams I was told I would fail and ended up with an average of 95%, before CXC exams I was told I fail and I passed 9 subjects, before CAPE I was told I would fail and I passed all 4 subjects so clearly I respond well to people doubting my abilities. So with all the fight that I have gotten over the years, the stunts they pulled, the betrayal and ungrateful behavior by some people who I made into stars I am un fazed because I am a warrior and I know that I am one of the most multi-talented and gifted persons in local music” Stated Durrant.

Karl Durrant who has worked with the likes of Vybz Kartel, Beenie Man, Sizzla, Romain Virgo, Jahvillani, Teejay Uptop Boss, Jahmiel, Intense, Iwaata, Richie Spice and more recently Zamunda and the very controversial new sensation Honey Milan says he plans to establish five to ten more artistes because he believes this is the only way for the industry to maintain a strong presence on mainstream music markets.

“My goal is to aid in making reggae music the most successful genre of music in the world and it is my view that the only way to achieve this is to establish a very big pool of new reggae/dancehall stars. One person cannot dominate a playlist so how do we expect to get consistent priority placement on mainstream media if we fight against each other instead of making one united push as a genre. I plan to fix that by introducing several new talents that have the star quality as well as the right mindset required to do on an international level. Durrant stated.

Currently Karl Durrant is adding the finishing touches to his public relations book titled, Da Formula which is slated to be published in late July 2021.  He is also working on his debut ep as well as a dancehall juggling and conducting public relations for over 15 artistes. Karl Durrant studied Journalism at The University Of The West Indies Mona (UWI) as well as television production at The Creative Production Training Center (CPTC). He started filming music videos at age 17 with his first client being Sizzla Kalongie while his career as a publicist began at age 19 when he started representing reggae star Singing Melody.
