Jamaican-American fashion designer turned author Jenelle Alexia is set to embark on a school tour in parts of Jamaica for her second children’s book Keira and Jaime Discovers A Musical Dream. Beginning the week of May 5th, Alexia has been working tirelessly to make this, the A’Legends School Tour, happen for a while.

Since the first book [Keira Discovers Her Talent] dropped, I’ve been trying to get a school tour done, but it never happened,” Alexia said. “But now, it’s like so unbelievable that it’s just around the corner and I’m really excited and anxious at the same time!”

Alexia, who’s also an actress, producer and hostess, is aiming to make reading fun again with her children’s books which targets children up to primary and elementary school level. However, both books are fun for all ages, even parents.

The goal is to normalize reading and make it fun at the same time. This ‘dunce’ culture in dancehall now is like taking several steps back and unfortunately leading the future of our amazing country in the wrong direction,” Alexia continues.

The A’Legends School Tour will visit more than 7 primary schools and a kindergarten in Old Harbour, Spanish Town, Kingston and St Andrew. May 6th is Read Across Jamaica Day where this leg of the tour will be hosted at the George Headley Primary School in Duhaney Park. Dancehall artists Xoshaniel, Vershon and Black-er will make special appearances at various schools, as well as popular dancer Shankle Dip and others.

This tour would not be possible without the generous support of various colleagues, known and unknown, who appreciate this cause. My biggest sponsors are Dr Michelle Gill through her foundation, Ejor Media Group, Levels To Life Productions, Streamline Auto Sales and Rental Club Ltd, Real Queffa Records, Dow Records, Shunny Records and many others who want to remain anonymous. Also, this tour wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of Mr Eugene Pitter who got almost all the schools onboard and my PR Lesley Hayles who has been doing much of the ground work behind the scenes.”

Alexia has already done readings at various schools in New Jersey and has others planned upon return to the States after the conclusion of this tour. Next on her agenda is getting both books into curriculum not only in the US but also in Jamaica, Guyana and throughout the Caribbean. Talks have already begun with the Ministry of Education and she is receiving major support from Minister Olivia “Babsy” Grange from the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport.

While most things are in place for this inaugural staging of the A’Legends School Tour, much more can still be done and therefore, donations are still being accepted for this and future events. Her books can be purchased online at Amazon, Apple Books and her A’Legends website. Jenelle Alexia is available for special appearances and interviews worldwide.
