Music producer and recording engineer Mani Bwoy have struck a telling musical chord by underscoring the importance of Jamaican producers creating music that has global appeal. The producer says he is concerned about the inconsistent production standards and the choice of topics by many local artistes that have become commonplace in dancehall at present.
According to the producer who recently migrated to Canada dancehall could see a more dominant and consistent place on the global musical landscape if the content being produced is more palatable to the international market.
As a producer and recording engineer of 12 years, I have traveled to many countries that don’t necessarily understand our accent and some of our local terms that we often use in songs which makes it harder for our records to consistently sell big numbers. Sometimes as producers we don’t realize the beauty of simplicity and as such over complicate things to the point where our content only appeals to a local audience who can relate to the topics we chose. When the great Bob Marley said One Love or even when Shaggy said It wasn’t me those songs became classics because people from all over the world could both relate to and understand what they were saying hence they became instant hits. Moving forward i want us to make music with those fundamentals as the foundation

Born Kimani Morgan, the Tower Hill native escaped the harsh realities of inner-city life by using music and education as his lottery tickets. He developed his musical skills by working as a recording engineer and producer at the internationally acclaimed Frenz For Real Studio which is based in his community of birth (Tower Hill).
Fast forward to the present day, Mani Bwoy boasts an impressive body of work which consists of projects with the likes of Beenie Man, Sizzla, Busy Signal, Jah Vinci, Teejay, Jahmiel, Verson, Jae Prynce and Shane O. But according to the producer he has ambitions of working with many more local and international artistes.
“I do not view music from a fixed lens as such I want to work with artistes from the fours corners of the earth and fuse their sounds with our local artistes to create hybrid hits that will make dancehall more dominant internationally. That is my goal” stated Mani Bwoy.
Currently, Mani Bwoy is busy in the studio with a slew of top-flight artistes finalizing a cluster of projects.
