For months REDjet had been awaiting approval from Jamaica on its application to fly between Kingston and Barbados.
Last night Lieutenant Colonel Oscar Derby, the director general of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority, said the low-cost carrier received the all-clear from his agency.
He says the safety concerns that were raised previously have been addressed.
Yesterday the CMC reported that after protracted delays REDjet now also has approval to fly to Trinidad.
The carrier is expected to make its first flight to Port of Spain within two weeks –that’s about three months after Trinidad and Jamaica denied entry to the carrier.
The matter had triggered a verbal brawl between CARICOM leaders, several political and bureaucratic meetings and questions about the safety of REDjet’s 24-year-old fleet of passenger jets
The Transport and Works Minister Mike Henry has given approval for regional low-cost carrier REDJet to fly in and out of Jamaica after it met all the technical requirements.
