(Kingston, Jamaica) Various local celebrities and personalities will compete in friendly football matches and track events at the 27th annual Bob Marley Charity Football Matches and Celebrity Olympics, scheduled for Ash Wednesday, February 17 at the National Stadium. Proceeds from this event will be donated to select local children’s charities and relief to earthquake-ravaged Haiti. Among those celebrities and personalities already confirmed to participate are Ding Dong, Chino, Chris Martin, Cobra, Elephant Man, Sky Juice, Wayne Marshall, Aidonia, Jimmy Adams, Bruce Bicknell, Zachary Harding, Wolde Harris, Peter Prendegrast, Lenny Hyde, Ali Mcnab and Courtney Walsh.
The exciting roster of events includes the Celebrities vs. Entertainers football match, Corporate 100 metres dash, Female Artistes 100 metres dash and DREAM Promoters 4 x 100 metres relay, featuring promoters of the popular Negril DREAM Weekend parties. Event planners Blueprint Consulting have been retained by the promoter Clive “Busy†Campbell to help improve the logistics of the event, and ultimately raise more funds. The team is currently negotiating with sponsors to stage the event, and the final list of confirmed sponsors will be announced soon.
Bigger venue
This staging will mark the first time the event is being held at the National Stadium. Previously it was held at various community arenas. “This venue facilitates the newly-added track element and gives the sponsors a wider arena to showcase their brandsâ€Â, explains Blueprint director Deane Shepherd, “and allows for more persons to support the eventâ€Â, he continues.
Ultimately, the organisers hope to make it one of the bigger entertainment properties in Jamaica, thereby increasing the resources of the charities they support.
